Beauty Trends: Steal the Look of Your Favorite Celebrity

From Taylor Swift’s red-carpet eyes to Miranda Cosgrove’s everyday luscious lip, we show you easy step-by-steps on how to get the glam looks of your favorite celebs.

Miranda Cosgrove’s Dewy Lips
Get Miranda’s au naturel pucker in just three easy steps.

1. If your lips are dry, exfoliate them with a bit of sugar, water and a toothbrush. Then apply your go-to moisturizer, lip balm or lip treatment.

2. Choose a neutral lip shade that adds just a pop of color to your natural lips. This can be a lipstick or stain. Apply it all over your lips.

3. Give your lips a swipe of clear or gold shimmer gloss, concentrating the shine on the inner parts of your lips and gradually decreasing the amount as you move outward. Piece of cake!

Taylor Swift’s Smoldering Cat Eye
Want to copy Taylor’s trademark smoky eye?

1. Brush a cream or white shadow all over your lids. This will be your base.

2. Line eyes with a black or dark-gray pencil liner (both top and bottom), extending the top line a little past your eye. Using a cotton swab, smudge the eyeliner in toward your lash line.

3. Apply a light-colored, shimmery shadow all over your eyelid up to your brow bone. Also add a bit to the inner corners of your eyes.

4. Apply a dark-colored shadow over your eyelid just up to the crease. Add extra shadow into your crease for dramatic definition. Blend shadow together with a brush or your finger.

5. Apply two coats of black mascara to your lashes. Get ready to steal the spotlight!

Selena Gomez’s Messy Side-braid
Nab Selena’s boho-chic braids in less than five minutes. (This look requires medium-length or long hair.)

1. Lightly tease the top of your mane to create a bit of volume.

2. Make a part on the right or left side of your head -- your choice!

3. Gather hair toward the side of your head, opposite your part, and braid it all the way down. Secure with a hair tie.

4. Gently pull a few strands of hair from your braid to get the messy look. Spray with a shot of hair spray to hold. Sport this easy ’do at school, on a date -- wherever!

Miley Cyrus’ Sun-kissed Glow
Miley is always stepping out like a bronzed goddess. Instantly get her glow with these super-quick tricks -- no sun needed!

1. Begin with a clean, moisturized face. Apply a thin layer of illuminating powder primer all over.

2. Grab your bronzer and a big fluffy brush. Sweep a small amount of bronzer across your forehead, down your nose, and on your cheeks and jawline. You’re targeting spots where the sun would naturally hit your face. Don’t forget to blend a bit into your neck.

3. Dab a bit more color onto your brush and define your cheekbones, just like you’d apply blush. Now you’re ready for summer!

How to Get Over a BFF Breakup

BFF breakups hurt, we know. But here are our 10 commandments on how to make the ending of a friendship as ouch-free as possible.

1. Thou shalt not talk trash.
Ranting about someone is kind of like eating a whole bag of potato chips: You end up feeling bad, no matter how satisfying it seems in the moment. It’s better to play it cool and keep your lips zipped.

2. Thou shalt not text her.
Do not, we repeat, do not pick up the phone! Anything you say right now -- mean or nice -- will backfire since you’re both still recovering from the fallout of your fight.

3. Thou shalt not beat yourself up.
You’ll only drive yourself crazy thinking about where you went wrong. The fact is that any conflict between two people is always about … two people. So don’t even think about blaming yourself for how things played out.

4. Thou shalt not stalk her Facebook page.
Seeing her latest status update will so not help you move on. While we don’t recommend unfriending her (that’s just petty), think about logging off of Facebook for a week or two so you aren’t tempted to check her profile.

5. Thou shalt hang out with other friends.
Call one of your other leading ladies and clock some quality time together. The more fun things you do with other people, the less you’ll ruminate about your ex-BFF.

6. Thou shalt make your journal your new best friend.
Writing about how this friendship drama makes you feel can help you sort through all those tough emotions and make you feel better about where you are.

7. Thou shalt let yourself mope a little.
It’s OK to get a little emo. Watch sad movies, stay in your PJs and eat ice cream straight out of the carton. Just don’t wallow too long; the idea is to get the blues out of your system, not to end up in a long-term funk.

8. Thou shalt put yourself first.
When you’re tight with a friend, you often spend a lot of time focusing on what she wants to do. Now’s the time to think about what you really love: Been a while since you picked up a paintbrush or played soccer? Do that, stat!

9. Thou shalt remember that she’s hurting too.
Make no mistake: This is a rocky time for her also. Remembering that this is as tough for her as it is for you can help you move from depression to compassion.

10. Thou shalt pamper yourself.
You’ve gone through some tough stuff lately, so take a bubble bath, paint your nails purple, or do whatever else makes you feel relaxed and amazing. You deserve it!

Celebrate Earth Day! Have Fun and Help the Planet

Happy Earth Day! We’ve pulled together our favorite fun, eco-friendly activities so you and your friends can spread the love to Mama Earth during this global celebration.

Get Dirty
Plants not only beautify our world, but also release oxygen into the atmosphere. So dig up a little dirt and get your gals together for some gardening! Have some small clay pots, potting soil, gardening tools, seed packets and water on hand. (If you really want to get creative, decorate your pots with craft paints or decoupage, and let the pots dry before planting anything in them.) Each girl gets to take her project home and give it plenty of love and sunshine until it sprouts and is ready to be transferred to the ground.

Get Clean
Have a spa party -- no chemicals or aerosols allowed! You can get beautiful using only all-natural products and organic ingredients. Have everyone wash their faces with a homemade scrub: In a bowl, stir equal parts oatmeal and brown sugar with a dab of safflower oil, if you have it. (Hint: Have hair ties handy!) Thoroughly rinse your faces, and then apply a honey-and-almond-oil facial mask, made of 1 tablespoon honey and two to three drops of almond oil. Leave the mask on for up to 15 minutes.

Everyone can also make their own bath salts to take home. Mix Epsom, kosher, rock or sea salts with a few drops of essential oil, and add food coloring. Experiment with different colors and scents (lavender is perfect for de-stressing), then layer in glass mason jars with lids. For a relaxing bath, add a scoop to running water in the tub.

Get Organized
Organize a school clothing drive, giving gently worn items to charitable organizations. Keep in mind that every donated item does not have to be fit for a fashion show. We met up with Jackie King of the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association (SMART), and she tells us that worn-out shoes, belts, purses, stuffed animals, books, sheets, towels, socks and even underwear (freshly laundered, please!) can be recycled into materials such as insulation. Ask school officials if you can set up collection bins, then visit SMARTASN.org, click on “Contact Us” and punch in your zip code to find a recycling location near you.

Get Crafty
Have a craft party using supplies that might otherwise get tossed in the trash. SMART posts Cool Craft Wednesday each week on its Facebook and Twitter pages, featuring super-fun recycling projects.

One of our favorites is this no-sew recycled T-shirt bag:

1. Cut the sleeves and neckline off of an old T-shirt. The hole at the top of the shirt will now be the opening of your tote, and holes where the sleeves were will form handles at the shoulders.

2. Use the scraps to cut a long strip of material to be used as a drawstring.

3. Cut a slit to make a small opening at the hemline. (Be careful: Don’t cut past the hem!) Attach a safety pin to the end of your drawstring and pull it through one side of the hemline opening to the other.

4. Pull the drawstring cord until the opening is gathered and closed up, and tie to secure. This is the bottom of your totally awesome new T-shirt bag!

Need Advice? Tap Into Your Intuition!

Are you desperately in need of advice? You could always bounce it off your BFF. Or your mom. Or your guidance counselor. Or … yourself! Here, we show you some tried-and-true techniques for following your own heart.

TAP INTO YOUR INTUITION: GUT-CHECK TIME

The Sitch: Your cousin is running with the wrong crowd, and she’s invited you to go to the mall with her and the crew this weekend. You miss your cuz; the two of you always have so much fun together! But you didn’t get such a good vibe from these kids the first time you met them.

Check Yourself: No need to answer your cousin on the fly! Thank her for the invite and tell her you’ll get back to her. Then take some quiet time to sort it all out. Sit down, close your eyes, still your mind and feel your truth. Would you like to give her friends a chance, or are you just not getting a good vibe about the whole thing? Follow that hunch.

TAP INTO YOUR INTUITION: WALK IT OFF

The Sitch: You were going after a starter position for the soccer team. You doubled up on practices and worked really hard, but you didn’t make the cut for first string. Coach is offering you a choice: second string for the super-competitive team or captain of intramurals.

Check Yourself: Decision-making can be challenging, especially when a ton of emotions are swirling around the issue. Instead of going into a woe-is-me fit, take a stroll. That’s right, a good walk can help you release negative feelings and shift your mood. Better? Once you’re centered, weigh the issue. Captain or second string? You can’t go wrong either way when it’s all about playing your game and having fun!

TAP INTO YOUR INTUITION: WRITE AWAY!

The Sitch: Your school’s mean girl has posted some pretty snide remarks about you on Facebook. It’s nothing major, but it’s clear she’s trying to rub you. And it’s working; you’re steamed! Ugh, everyone is texting you about it. You want to handle this without creating more drama, but how?

Check Yourself: If you’re looking for a specific answer here, sorry, not happening. Learning to read your intuition is about solving your own problems, especially in situations as sticky as this. When life gets complicated, it’s time to grab your journal and get writing. It’s OK to plan fantasy schemes of revenge, but once you’re done venting that bad juju, jot down as many amicable real-life solutions as possible.

TAP INTO YOUR INTUITION: CATCH YOUR DREAMS

The Sitch: Your two best friends are spatting, and you’re stuck in the middle. And you feel like you and your BF are drifting apart. Oh, and your parents are turning a bedroom into an office and making you double up with your sister. Plus, you’ve got exams coming up! Seems like it can’t get any worse.

Check yourself: Ruh-roh! When things pile on at once, do not go into freak-out mode. Give it a rest, literally, by solving problems in your sleep. Your dreams can be like a whisper from a trusted friend: your subconscious. Decoding your dreams provides clues to cracking your life’s little mysteries.

Make Peace With Your Inner Mean Girl

Has your inner mean girl come out to play? Ew! But before you give her the smackdown, know that she can hold a few clues as to what’s really going on in your world. Figure out how to rein her in and you can turn any icky situation into a pleasant experience. Promise!

You Are Not Your Reaction
You’re sitting at your fave cafe clutching a chocolate shake as your peeps notice a not-so-hot boy gawking at you. Seriously, he won’t stop staring! You make a snide comment about him, and your friends laugh hysterically.

So, how’d that feel? Do you really feel good about some boy, cute or not, being the butt of a joke? It’s nobody’s natural state to be mean. The guy obviously thinks you’re attractive, so instead of speaking up, silently take his stares as a compliment. If it makes you uncomfortable, simply look away. Why have a staring contest?

It’s an Inside Job
Oh, no! You and your bestie had a spat. No biggie, since you two usually patch things up stat. But your inner mean girl keeps hitting the replay button in your mind. You can’t stop thinking about how bossy and opinionated she is, and you totally have an attitude about it.

Could it be -- bear with us -- those qualities are on parade because she’s mirroring back things you don’t exactly adore about you? Turn inward. And be honest! Redirect your ’tude, and watch hers slowly shift too. Like magic!

Hold Yourself Accountable
Mom called you out (again) because you didn’t unload the dishwasher or clean out the cat’s litter box. Chores, ugh. So you snapped at her, and now you’re grounded. Yeah, you’re slammed with school and extracurrix. Still, no excuse!

So, suck it up and tell mom “Sorry.” The trick here is to not expect a payoff for apologizing. Just do it because you’re holding yourself responsible for being irresponsible. Owning up holds its own rewards. You’ll see (wink, wink).

Speak Your Mind

Sheesh! Every time you’re having some girl time in your crib with your crew, your little bro is trying to get in the mix. So embarrassing!

Have you talked to him privately about this? (No, screaming at him does not count!) Consider approaching your brother from a level of respect. Say something like, “Look, I know everybody treats you like you’re just a kid. But I know you’re way more mature than you pretend to be.” Set the convo up that way, and he’ll be so much more receptive to your request.

Don’t Be so Hard on Yourself
No matter how your life’s scenarios play out, be easy on yourself. If you slip into mean girl mode, acknowledge it and then take some quiet time to figure out how you can flip a negative into a positive. Then don’t stay stuck; move on. It really is that simple!
